Hake

Hake is a saltwater fish living on the bottom of the Adriatic Sea, where it is caught by trawl nets or long-lines. Its body can reach 130 cm in length and 15 kg weight.

It’s a fish species that spends its life on sandy and muddy bottoms; the young specimens prefer living near the shore, while you can find adults in deep water. Hake is very common in the Adriatic Sea up to Marche region.
It’s a voracious predator that feeds on live prey, such as anchovies, sardines, shellfish, squids and other pelagic animals. It’s caught mainly at night, as during the day it spends time on the seabed.
It’s a species with breeding period that goes from winter to spring.
It’s a fish with white meat, valued for its digestibility. In fact, it contains a low amount in fats compensated by a high content in proteins.
